Happy New Year! 20-40-60

r - I love the beginning of a new year because it feels so fresh and new.  Everyone is making their New Years resolutions and has a positive attitude. This year I am going to try and not let the little things get to me. Life is too short so I just want to live in the moment!  I am all ready for 2015 and to see what the New Year will bring. Now let's check out what I am wearing on New Years Eve! You can't have New Years without some sequins. I decided to wear this gold sequin tank with my boyfriend blazer and black leather leggings.

m- Can't wait for tomorrow! I intend to spend the day outside with family and friends, followed up with French Canadian Fare and a cozy fire. I require ease, warmth, comfort and stretch - all of these pieces fit the bill. My favourite items are in my boots - wool socks. So practical - why am I in a fashion blog?

k - New Years is my favourite celebration.  It is a time of reflection and optimism for the future.  Most importantly celebrated with family and friends.  Hosting a party I need to dress for comfort and still look festive.  I chose a skirt that I had purchased last year at AllSaints. It was an investment piece in which I joke that I should frame it as a piece of art when I’m not wearing it. I found this silk, long sleeve blouse with a hem split back at Club Monaco that is comfortable and the colour and style is exactly the look I want. The bordeaux coloured boots made by GEOX adds colour and I hope will take me through the night.  Looking forward to 2015!

Friday Five Favourite Parkas

r & m- January is a great time to buy a winter coat, winter sales are on and Canadians still have two months of cooler temperatures to go. Typically, we prefer darker coats for daytime use and a lighter coat for evening or special event. Last year, m purchased a white parka and although, she loves wearing it, it requires A LOT of laundering and down wash. This year we are looking to update with olive and camel tones. m was drawn to colours -plum, red, pink (see blue coat) and thank goodness  for r's intervention otherwise m would have been adding some years to her look and been stylish, but with a more mature look.

T'was The Night Before...and I have nothing to wear!

r- Now that my Christmas holidays have officially started, I am ready to rock my Christmas outfits! My husband and I are pretty low key on Christmas Eve since Christmas Day we spend so much of our time being on the go. We like to go out for dinner, go for a nice quiet walk with our dog, and head to church for the Christmas Eve service. This outfit lets me do all of these things with comfort without looking too comfortable! I love that this quilted tunic is winter white. I paired it with these adorable boots. Check out that gold zipper on the back with the gold detailing. Can't wait for Christmas!

m- As a mother, I spend a lot of time getting ready for the big day. During all of the preparations, I generally forget that I am a grown woman in the year, 2014. I am drawn to the strangest things, weird Christmas earrings, wanting to match my clothes to the holiday, Laura Ashley stuff, reading Christmas Soup for the Christmas Soul and bread, lots and lots of bread. Inevitably, Christmas Eve arrives and family gathers round and as I gaze down at my children unwrapping gifts with glee, I catch a glimpse of what I have on...and the recognize the fashions of Ellen Griswald, that are then captured in family photos for years to come. Not this year, I will attempt to be fashionable with black faux leather leggings and lace blouse (Ellen did wear one of those in Christmas Vacation).

Friday Five - Gifts for Dad

We have covered some great gift ideas for our moms so we think it's only fair to give some tips on the top items for all of the dads out there. Here we go!

1) This is a great gift idea for the beer drinker. It's the perfect beginners guide to brewing your own beer. Brewing your own beer can be done in four easy steps with both the deluxe and preimum editions of this Mr. Beer kit.

2) We love this gift idea for all of the active dads out there. It is the Everlast Digital Activity Fitness Tracker. It records your steps, calorie intake, distance and even your sleep patterns! There are quite a few colour options available as well.

3) When we found this gift online we couldn't help but find it hilarious and also kind of sweet. This gift is designed for new fathers. It's a spin on the traditional diaper bag. Pack this "Father Tool-Kit" with all baby essentials and you won't have to listen to him complain about carrying around a frilly looking diaper bag. We especially love the work goggles and gloves. With this tool-kit he will be ready for any emergency.

4) Remember back in the day when big headphones were totally in and they made a fashion statement? Well this trend has made a comeback! We love these Beats by Dr. Dre (look at all of the colours to choose from!). If you're not quite ready to jump into the big headphones try the tour ear buds instead and if all else fails the Beats by Dr. Dre Pill are amazingly loud for such a small wireless speaker.

5) iPhone 6 is now upon us and these cases are manly yet sophisticated. We especially like the brushed aluminum case for the dad who maybe works in an office. The Naked Tough case works great for the dad whose job requires more phone protection.

Shopping in Comfort

r- I love holiday Christmas shopping! I try and keep a mental note of all of things the people I love have mentioned they want throughout the year. This definitely helps when I brave the crowds during holiday shopping time. Keeping this in mind I always  make sure I am comfortable when out and about. It gets hot in the little shops and the malls that I go to for my shopping list so I try and keep things light. Decided to wear long tunic, chunky red circle scarf and my Uggs. I also love my knitted boot socks.
m- r has been out shopping and I have completed several loads of laundry, had a healthy snack, worked out and done my shopping, too. I prefer to put on my slippers and find everything I need online and have it delivered to my doorstep.
